07_ Information Disorder, Basics Terms and Deepfake Technology

Disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation are related concepts but differ in their intent and sometimes in their origins:

·     Misinformation - False or inaccurate information that is spread without the intent to mislead. Misinformation is often shared because the person believes it to be true.

·     Malinformation - Genuine information that is shared with the intent to harm or damage. This type of information is based on reality but used to inflict harm on a person, organization, or country.

Let’s learn other basic terms (I):

·     Conspiracy Theories - A belief that some covert but influential organization is responsible for a circumstance or event. These theories typically contradict the standard, accepted explanation of events.

·     Manipulation - The action of manipulating someone in a clever or unscrupulous way. In media, it refers to the alteration of information or presentation to influence opinions, emotions, attitudes, or behavior.

Let’s learn other basic terms (II):

·     Fake News - News articles or content that intentionally contain misinformation spread via traditional news media or online social media.

·     Deepfake - A synthetic media in which a person in an existing image or video is replaced with someone else's likeness, often using artificial intelligence techniques. These can be incredibly convincing and difficult to detect.

What is "deep fake" technology?

·     Deepfake refers to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning techniques to create or manipulate video, audio or other digital content to present something that did not actually occur.

·     The term "deepfake" is a combination of "deep learning", which is a type of machine learning, and "fake".
